Managed development capacity Monthly retainer

Software Development Augmentation

Extend your engineering capacity without the overhead of scaling your team. We provide managed development capacity on a monthly retainer: you define what needs to be built, and our team delivers it with a clear process, consistent quality, and a technical project manager keeping everything on track.

When This Makes Sense

Development augmentation works best when you already have direction but need more capacity, specific skills, or flexibility to keep things moving.

01

Your roadmap is bigger than your team.

There's more work than your current team can handle. Features are queuing up, timelines are slipping, and technical debt keeps growing. You need extra development power that delivers without pulling your existing team off track.

02

You need skills you don't have in-house.

A migration to a new framework, a mobile app your backend team isn't equipped to build, or an AI project that requires specific experience. Instead of hiring for a skill you may only need for a few months, you bring in a team that already has it.

03

Your priorities change from one quarter to the next.

One quarter it's a feature push, the next it's stabilization and performance. The work changes, and your needs change with it. Our engagement model lets you scale effort up or down and swap skills in and out as the work shifts, so you get the right people for the stage you're in.

04

You want the output without management overhead.

Hiring contractors or freelancers means you also take on coordination, quality oversight, and communication management. With our model, a technical project manager on our side handles that, so you stay focused on priorities and decisions, not task management.

How It Works

01
Hours

Set your monthly development hours.

You set a fixed number of development hours each month. Based on your project's needs, we assemble the right team and assign a technical project manager who coordinates the work, communicates progress, and keeps delivery on track.

02
Management

Get a technical project manager who owns the delivery.

Your project manager is an engineer first, with the background to make technical calls and guide decisions. They're your single point of contact: they translate your priorities into development tasks, manage the workflow, and keep you informed with regular updates and clear reporting.

03
Team

Bring in a team that already works together.

Our developers come to your project having worked together across multiple engagements. They share established practices and a way of working that's already in sync, so you get a team that performs like a team from day one.

04
Skills

Match the right skills to every task.

We assign each task to the developer best suited for it, so you get stronger results across the board. Need frontend polish, backend architecture, and QA in the same month? Each piece goes to someone with real depth, and your project manager keeps it all moving as one coordinated effort.

05
Flexibility

Scale up or down as your needs change.

Need more for a launch push? Scale up. Hitting a quieter period? Scale down. Your retainer adjusts with you, in both effort and the mix of skills on the team, so you always have the right setup for where the project is, without long-term commitments.

How Our Project Managers Think

Every project manager came up writing code. Here's how that shapes the way they run your delivery.

"I put a lot of emphasis on communication and transparency. Remote teams can work extremely well, but only if information flows freely and problems are raised early. I want the client to understand where we are, why we're making certain decisions, and what risks we see. That's how you build trust over time."

"I want our clients to understand not only what we are doing, but why we are doing it, what trade-offs are involved, and where we see potential risks. My role is to bridge the gap between business and technology, make sure problems are addressed at their root cause, and help the team deliver solutions that remain reliable well beyond the immediate requirement."

Common Questions

How quickly can we get started?

Usually within 1 to 2 weeks of signing the contract. We've already scoped your needs by that point, so we move straight to assigning your technical project manager and assembling your team.

Where are you based?

Our development team is based in Bucharest, Romania, and we have a sales office in Amsterdam. Bucharest sits in the Eastern European time zone, so you get full working-hour overlap with the rest of Europe and overlap with US East Coast mornings. We schedule calls and reviews around your hours, wherever you're based.

How experienced are your developers?

Most of our developers are mid to senior level, with the average developer staying at SBP for over four years. That tenure matters: you get people who've shipped production software across many projects and industries, not juniors learning on your time.

How do you select who works on our project?

We match people to your project based on the technologies, domain, and stage of work involved. Every developer has come through our own hiring and review process, so the vetting is done long before they reach your project. As the work shifts, your technical project manager adjusts who's involved so the skills on the team keep matching what the project actually needs.

How do we communicate and stay aligned?

Your project manager is your single point of contact. Most clients prefer regular calls and async updates via Slack or email, but we adapt to how you work. You'll also get progress reports and deliverable reviews.

How do you handle IP and confidentiality?

We sign NDAs as standard practice. All work product belongs to you. Our ISO/IEC 27001 certification means information security is managed through a formal, audited framework.

Can we start small and grow?

Yes, and most clients do. Start with a small engagement, evaluate the fit and output, and expand from there.

What if something isn't working?

We address it quickly. Whether it's quality, pace, or communication, we work with you to resolve it. The goal is a partnership that delivers, and we take responsibility for making that happen.

What if our priorities change mid-month?

That's expected. Your project manager works with you to reprioritize as needed. The retainer gives you flexibility in how hours are allocated, so shifting focus doesn't mean renegotiating a contract.

What's the difference between this and your end-to-end team service?

With augmentation, you're adding development capacity to supplement your existing team or fill specific gaps. You set the direction, and we deliver the work. With an end-to-end team, we take full responsibility for running a complete development function, including planning, architecture, delivery cadence, and team management. The right model depends on how much of the development process you want to own versus delegate.
